Make Time for You
Michael Zweigart | MAR 2
March is often a time when people take vacations. We try to escape the winter gloom and cold, or take a break from work and school. Nothing wrong with this!!!
But two things are wrong.
First, we fail to make time for ourselves during vacations; we are focused on the execution of our plans, we take work calls, we don't disconnect from work emails or texts. This constant connection to home does not allow our nervous systems to regulate. We don't allow ourselves to downshift from hyperarousal.
Second, we fail to make time for ourselves outside of vacations. Time for ourselves comes in many ways, but it must be something for you. Have a list of things you like to do (with or without someone); movie, fishing, game, sport, self-care like massage/facial/mani-pedi, hiking, biking, reading, digital disconnection, activities that bring us joy... or just 5 to 10 minutes in the car, alone, in silence before we get out and walk into the house after work.
I know I am blessed. I have the luxury of taking time off from my work on a regular basis. I also have the opportunity to join mission trips where I feel recharged, filling my bucket while serving others.
This month, I will be serving in Abaco providing leadership oversight for teams helping with hurricane recovery, literacy and feeding programs. Follow along on Instagram @regulatemethod
